Proper Nutrition for Layers and Broilers
By CHETU AGROSOLUTION · 30 July 2026

Success in poultry depends heavily on nutrition. Poor feed leads to slow growth, few eggs and frequent disease.
Broiler Feeding Stages
- Starter (days 1–14): 22–24% protein. Fine crumble with starter nutrients.
- Grower (days 15–28): 20–22% protein. Rapid muscle growth.
- Finisher (days 29–42): 18–20% protein. Finishing before sale.
Layer Feeding Stages
- Chick mash (weeks 1–8): foundation for bones and organs.
- Grower mash (weeks 9–18): preparing to lay without excess fat.
- Layer mash (weeks 19+): sufficient calcium (3.5–4%) for strong shells.
Key Points
- Clean water available at all times — birds drink twice as much as they eat.
- Add vitamin/mineral premixes during stress — heat, vaccination or feed changes.
- Store feed dry — moldy feed causes aflatoxin poisoning.
- Follow the vaccination schedule (Newcastle, Gumboro) — good feed without immunity is not enough.
